**NEW RELEASE SPECIAL! $2.99 FOR A LIMITED TIME!**From Elyssa Patrick comes a light, sexy, emotional contemporary romance perfect for fans of Jill Shalvis, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Bella Andre, about what happens when a fake relationship becomes all too real. One fake relationship . . .Ginny Michaels has always been a good girl and—ever since surviving a school shooting a little over a year ago—hailed a hero. Except she doesn’t feel like a hero. She can’t even have a one-night stand with sexy Wes Dalton properly. When her big city fling resurfaces in her hometown with an intriguing proposition, she’s powerless to resist. A fake relationship is exactly what’s needed to keep her small town’s matchmakers at bay during the upcoming wedding season. If only her attraction to Wes were as easy to ignore.Too many real kisses . . .Wes Dalton doesn’t have many regrets, and that includes his night with Ginny. But he’s always hoped to strengthen his relationship with his estranged family. When his father’s health takes a bad turn, Wes puts his life on hold and moves to the meddling seaside town of Cape Hope. With his barriers in place—and a beautiful woman to help him hold them up—he’s prepared for anything. Or so he thinks. Despite his determination to leave as soon as the summer is over, those fake kisses are starting to feel an awful lot like the real thing.

Wonderful story about a woman finding out that she’s worth and deserves everything in the world while finding a man who finally learns what love is.  I enjoyed seeing the couple find themselves as they navigated a fake relationship that became something more than they ever dreamed.

After a dare from her sister and sister’s friends Ginny finds herself approaching the man that she nicknamed Mr. Dangerous with the intent of giving him her phone number, getting a kiss and asking him out on a date.  She ends up doing something even more unexpected when they have a very quick encounter on the wall outside the bar which is quickly doused by his comments post-coitus.  She has always seen herself as invisible and undesirable but for a very brief moment a gorgeous man seemed to want her and no one else.  When she runs in to him again in her small hometown she finds herself incredibly hurt when he doesn’t even seem to remember her at all which just serves to reinforce her personal feelings of being nothing.  I liked her strength but at the same time you will want to shake her when she seems to be willing to accept the crumbs she is given but is unable to push for her voice to really be heard.  I was very happy when she finally realizes that she is worth more and needs to quit settling for being in the shadows.  She’s smart and with everything she has gone thru recently she deserves something that will make her happy.

Wes is an ass at the beginning.  Well actually I can’t completely call him an ass even as he behaves like one because you do see that he instantly realizes his behavior and while not wanting to completely admit why he is reacting the way he does he owns his mistakes.  He’s had his own demons to slay over the years and they have left him very unwilling to consider anything other than flings so when he sees Ginny he decides to resolve an annoyance and proposes a fake relationship while he is in town dealing with family issues.  They put down rules for each other and even have a safe word that made me laugh but results in a wonderful gesture at the end.  Wes takes a lot to start to love but you do fall for his endearing ways even as he tries so hard to not admit what she means to him.  He’s strong, stubborn and such an amazingly caring man that he’d make anyone soften towards him once you see behind the facade of arrogance.  I loved watching him struggle to find his place even as he was trying to fix everything.

I want to see more of this town and both families as you start to fall for each of them as the story progresses.  Special thanks to Elyssa for sending me this story in hopes of a review of any kind.  I loved the town, families and pair that made up this story.

Carrie Lofty brings her “exciting, sensual” (RT Book Reviews ) romantic storytelling to a sizzling new adult novel of a gifted pianist with a troubled past, the enigmatic stranger who unlocks her secrets, and sultry nights of passion in the Big Easy. A piano prodigy on a scholarship to a prestigious New Orleans university, Keeley Chambers is finally striking out on her own after a roving life dictated by her criminal parents. Her soulful, brilliant, fiery improvisations tear through her like a storm but are played for an audience of one: herself. However, sinfully handsome Jude Villars refuses to abandon Keeley to her private world and calls her out on her fear of performing in public. The irreverent, seductive billionaire playboy awakens Keeley to the blissful pleasures of letting go as he tempts her into the spotlight of the city’s hottest clubs. Yet Jude has secrets of his own and pain that no one but Keeley recognizes. Will revealing themselves as they really are be too great a risk? Or will the truth make their tumultuous connection hotter and more irresistible than ever?

BLUE NOTES is Carrie Lofty’s first New Adult romance, and it’s currently on sale for $1.99 in all digital formats through May 5.

I have to admit that when I was approached about this one I jumped on it because I’ve enjoyed her writing as part of Katie Porter.  I haven’t read her on her own yet although I do have some titles they are just buried in my TBR.  I will definitely have to dig them out and move them up on the list because reading this one makes me want more.

We start this book with a bit of a history lesson in the life of Keely Chambers our heroine.  Her history isn’t a pleasant one and it plays a major factor in how this book plays out so seeing the pain is vital to understanding why she does what she does as we get deeper in to the story.  She has an amazing gift for the piano and music but isn’t comfortable on the stage nor is she comfortable with letting anyone really get close to her.  She’s intrigued and oh so out of her comfort zone when an arrogant man pushes her buttons and gets her to do something she never thought she’d like, perform on stage!  As she gets to know this man she finds that love is something she deserves but that it is worth fighting for even if you feel like you aren’t worthy.  She finds her worth not in this relationship but it pushes her to face her fears and really reach for what she deserves not what she’s always thought she deserved.  I loved her strength and ability to see where she was floundering but admittedly got frustrated when she kept her secret for so long.  I understood it but it was a struggle to not yell “Tell him dammit!!” at the Kindle.

Jude…  now he pissed me off at one point and trust me he’ll piss you off as well but there is so much pain behind this man who appears to have the world at his feet.  While he does have the world at his feet he needs someone who will call him on his behavior and push him to have to work for her.  He’s very closed off at the beginning of the story but as he spends more time around Keely he becomes something more than just a wealthy man keeping his only remaining family stable, he becomes a man you can admire for his strength but also one you can admire for letting his walls down to show the wounded soul behind the facade.  I was so pissed at him because of one moment but once we got past that and saw how much he let her in finally I found him delectable.  He’s sexy as hell and everything he does to try to make her comfortable speaks volumes about how much he cared for her even as he was denying it.  There’s something about a man who will move everything to make you happy even when you don’t know what you want/need that is sexy as hell.

Overall there will be moments when you want to slap both of them but the story is powerful in that both main characters truly learned something from one another and really developed the ability to stand on their own but more powerfully learned how to trust one another enough to let the other in.  While they both could’ve stood on their own they really do understand the value of having a partner to weather the storms and rely on but it definitely took time.

Special thanks to Carrie Lofty (actually her partner in crime, Lorelie Brown) for sending me a copy of this with no pressure or expectation of review.  I really enjoyed this and would love to see her roomie and his sister also find love.

Elizabeth Chapman is saved from an armed robber by a giant Kodiak bear who shifts into a large, well-muscled, and fully bare human. But when it's revealed that the robber is the brother of a dangerous criminal, Elizabeth finds herself the target of a vendetta.

Ronan, the Bear Shifter, takes her to Shiftertown, where she finds that mateless Ronan takes care of Shifters who have no families or clans of their own. Having grown up in foster care herself, Elizabeth can only admire how protective Ronan is, even while she chafes at the confinement.

But Ronan will only let her leave the safety of Shiftertown if he becomes her 24/7 bodyguard. Elizabeth finally agrees. The trouble is, the sassy human Elizabeth is triggering Ronan's long-buried need to find himself a mate.

Yesterday I posted a look at the full box set and promised to follow up with individual reviews of each story – Today is Bodyguard by Jennifer Ashley.

I really enjoyed this installment of the Shifters Unbound series and can’t believe I didn’t read it when it was first published.  The pair are of course well matched but I really appreciated that they both were able to get a real home as a part of this story.

Elizabeth is used to taking care of everything around her and trying to take care of herself.  She’s got a past that I wouldn’t wish on anyone but she has emerged from it as a very strong willed woman.  She’s taking care of her younger sister and the pressure of making sure their lives are safe and happy have made her tired but aching for someone to share it with.  She’s lonely…  I know hard to think but she’s been burned by so many things that when she’s confronted with an armed robber she isn’t 100% willing to back down but is trying to figure out how to get out of the situation alive when out of nowhere a bear comes to save her.  As she gets drawn in to a mess caused by her being willing to do the right thing to defend him she’s going to end up with a man who will do everything he can to make her happy even if it means letting her go.

Ronan just wanted to protect Elizabeth since she’s been nothing but kind to the shifters who frequent her store.  When he saves her from the robber he ends up having to take her into his protection in Shiftertown.  Unfortunately she isn’t willing to back down even when it is uncovered that she’s managed to catch the attention of one of the drug lords in Austin.  As he fights to protect this strong woman he discovers that she has a lot of secrets and is also at her core lonely like him.  He’s such a great character and seeing him interact with his wards will make you smile.  This is a man who has such a deep heart and sense of what should be done even at sacrifice to himself that you will smile as he finds the perfect mate.  I loved how willing he was to fight for what was right and to be willing to do anything that Elizabeth needed without pressuring her even though it would cost him dearly if she left.

This was such a sweet story and I’m glad that I was able to get my hands on this box set so I could enjoy it.

Nobody Bodine came from a nobody and will always be a nobody. He can disappear into the shadows—no one can see him if he doesn’t want them to. He exists on the edge, in neither the white man’s world nor the tribe’s, dispensing vigilante justice when he sees fit. There’s no other place for a man like him in this world.

Until Melinda Mitchell shows up on the rez. From the first moment he lays eyes on her, he can tell there’s something different about her. For starters, she’s not afraid of him. She asks where his scars came from, and why he has so many. But more than that, she sees him. For the first time in his life, Nobody feels like a somebody in her eyes.

Melinda has come west to run the new day care on the White Sandy Reservation. She’s intrigued by this strange man and his tattered skin, and when she discovers that he’s a self-appointed guardian angel for the boy in her care, she realizes that there’s more to Nobody than meets the eyes. But how far will he go to keep the boy safe? And will she be able to draw him into the light?

NOBODYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Ok I’ve been wanting this story since he first appeared on the page in Mystic Cowboy and while Sarah made us all wait I’m actually glad in a way.  We get so much from this story and having her wait until the time was right was difficult but ohhhhhhh soooooo worth it!

Melinda has always been the odd person out in her family.  She’s always just lived life and while it hasn’t taken her down the same “respectable” path that her sister has gone down she has been semi-content with it.  She comes to the reservation after yet another disastrous relationship but this time she’s convinced that she’ll get her head on straight and do some good.  She’s unsettled by what she discovers as she spends time on the reservation but decides to roll up her sleeves and work on the new center but also finds herself wanting what she sees her sister has with Rebel.  The only man she’s met that stirs her blood is the man no one sees or if they see him they see him as a threat and not a human being.  While she is scared of this man at first she decides to confront those fears and recognizes that in this man there is something special that she should hang on to.  I have to admit that there are times when I wanted to yell at her for the way she was behaving but a bigger part of me saw what the big picture was and how much hurting him hurt her as deeply.  She’s a bit flighty but when she decides something is worth fighting for she does it even as it scares her to death.

Now…  I have to talk about the man who stole my heart in Mystic Cowboy…. continued to perk my interest in Masked Cowboy… I just don’t know why I wanted his story so badly but there is something about this man that just called to me and now knowing his story I just…  *melts*

Nobody is the hero that we as romance readers all want to read about.  Well, we want to have him for our very own even as he rips our hearts to shreds.  He’s such a damaged man who has convinced himself (actually been told by those who should’ve shielded him) that he is nothing.  Actually he’s convinced himself that he is beneath nothing and there is nothing that he deserves more than being scorned or mistreated.  He’s always lived outside the tribe and the law but yearns for something he just can’t put a name to.  This is a man who does nothing but protect the land and people he loves in his own way but others don’t see him as anything other than trouble until he meets a woman who actually sees him.  I just wanted to take him in my arms and try to take away all the pain he has ever felt…  well and do all sorts of naughty things with him as damn the man is sexy!!!  Yes in real life a man like him would scare me to death because of all of his scars but in a book I can get my fill of finding out what makes this scarred, damaged hero tick.

Get ready to have your heart broken over and over watching him struggle with the idea that someone really does see him, wants him and trusts him to be the man that he’s never seen himself as… a lover, partner and ,best of all, human.  The struggle he goes through to understand that he is worth loving and trusting is heartbreaking but so worth the journey that I’m honored to have had the chance to read it and gush over it to anyone who will listen.  You want this story!!!  You really do…  It is worth every tissue you will use as you read it!

I can’t thank Sarah enough for letting me get my eyes on his book early and while I am sad in some respects that his story has been told I am happy that it lived up to every single expectation I had for it.  He’s a hero that you want to cuddle and make everything perfect for then do all sorts of naughty things with.

Three things make billionaire Jim Halcyon’s to-do list: women, work…and more women. It’s a perfect agenda for a rich shifter who has no problem letting his inner grizzly out to play. From the bright lights of Vegas, to the sophisticated action of New York—he’s got the money and the power to do anything he wants.

Anything, except resist the lure of Lady Luck, an ancient copper coin he gambles yearly to possess. Jim is determined to regain control of the pretty penny, and damn if he’ll let any bit of eye candy distract him from his goal. Not even the mesmerizing woman in the middle of the casino floor with the shimmering hair and enormous green eyes.

With a life-changing move ahead of her, Lillie’s finagled a temporary layover en route to her future. She’s got five days to soak in new experiences, and while Vegas is too big and shiny and loud for her shy bear self, she’s eager to do this up right. It’s the last chance she’s got to let her hair down.

Until his challenge begins, Jim is more than willing to oblige Lillie’s wish for a final fling. Only Lady Luck has some twists of fate planned for them both…

I’ve got to admit that Vivian Arend is one of my drop everything to read authors.  I adore her work and love that I’ve not only met her but that she seems to consider me someone that she can tease without fear of feelings getting hurt.  I have to share not only how I found out about this story but how fun it was joking with her on Twitter about her teasing of me…

So out of the blue I get an email with a tease…

Screen Shot 2014-02-06 at 11.39.41 AMYes…  Just this with no blurb or other information..  Did I whine and call her all sorts of names under my breath???  YES YES YES!

Did she do what she loves to do and just laugh at my muttering?  Yep…  she just laughed and felt no shame for teasing me with the small part of the cover.  Did it then slip that the hero was a BEAR!!!?  Yep.  This might’ve elicited more crying from me but I know it’s Viv and I just need to be patient.  The story will be worth the wait and the torture is all done in fun…. but I’m not going to admit that it is easy to wait for things to make their way to me.  I’m glad that she feels comfortable enough to tease me and I look forward to getting to see her again in New Orleans next month!

Now on to why you are here…  What oh what did I think of Copper King?

I truly enjoyed this short story of two bears who find their perfect match but don’t feel comfortable to tell the other what they are feeling.  You’ve got a wolf best friend that will make you laugh (BTW- when is his story Viv??  huh huh huh???)  The whole premise to this story is Jim is in Vegas to complete the annual challenge to win a lucky coin from his best friend.  He’s got a few days to unwind and let go before the challenge begins so when he meets a woman he’d like to spend some time with he runs with it.  I mean a night to relieve some sexual tension and he’ll be good to go with the challenge but when he has his night with her he realizes that maybe he wants more. As they spend more time together he realizes that maybe he has found something that doesn’t usually happen for his kind but by the time he realizes this she’s gone.  Now he’s headed home to handle the delicate matter of what to do with his life when…. (ok not telling you more on this line so now….)

Lily is trying to enjoy one taste of freedom before she heads on to the rest of her life.  She’s not used to being around a lot of people so when she starts to panic she’s very appreciative of her rescuer.  As he seems to be interested in her she decides to let herself enjoy this stopover in Vegas and indulge in releasing some of her own tension with a man who is willing to fulfill her fantasies.  She’s finding out that she wants more of Jim as the days wear on but she hasn’t shared everything with him including exactly who she is.  As their time together ends she’s torn but knows she has to do the right thing and make the rest of her journey no matter how much she doesn’t want to.

I loved their chemistry and enjoyed the fact that they both brought out the best in one another to allow them both to shine.  She brings out his relaxed side and he brought out her love of life.  Add in a fun loving wolf who just happens to appear at the right times and you have a story I think everyone should enjoy.

This story is available as part of a set called Alphas After Dark and all the stories were enjoyable.  I have to thank Vivian for giving me a copy of this particular story before the set released and without pressure of a review.  I always appreciate it!

Book four of the Earth Angels series

Miami's best bounty hunter, Nikita Tesoro will do anything to collar a fugitive. Including stepping into a stripper's stilettos for the night. Outsmarting her rival Kyle Beaudecker is just a bonus. Despite the sexual tension sparking between them, Nikita keeps a professional distance from "Hurricane" Kyle. After all, she can't get hurt if she doesn't care.

A descendant of the archangel Barakiel with the power to harness electricity, Kyle should be focusing his energy on tracking down a demon that may be hiding in the human realm. But he's a lover, not a fighter, and he'd much rather use his special talents for pleasure: specifically Nikita's. And teaming up to find a bail jumper means spending lots of time together...

But when their case takes a turn for the demonic, Kyle can no longer hide his true nature from Nikita. He'll do whatever it takes to win her heart--even stop the apocalypse. But he can't do it alone.

As sad as I am to see this series end, I truly loved this last installment.  Honestly the pairing of Kyle and Nikita made me laugh but also had a lot of heart behind the heat that arcs between the two of them.

Nikita doesn’t do relationships.  She’s all for a quick turn between the sheets to scratch an itch but when it comes to any other kind of entanglement she’s the type to run away.  She cares for people but her past makes her wary of believing in love in any way shape or form.  You see her past makes it where she believes everyone will leave her and it is best to not let yourself be weak enough to love someone else.  She does care for her one relative but that is the exception to the rule and even then she’ll tell you she really doesn’t care but does things out of a sense of obligation.  She’s always been attracted to Kyle but as much as she finds herself attracted to him she also finds herself wanting to kill him.  They compete for the same bounties and while he’s definitely someone that would be fun to play with she also senses that he might be someone that could get to her more than she wants.  As things play out during this story we get to see this strong woman finally come to terms with her childhood and open her mind/heart to love.

Kyle is something else.  He plays the fun loving playboy with the best of them but behind this is a man who desperately wants to find someone as much as he also doesn’t want to subject them to his secret.  He’s a lot more complex than people give him credit for but when he finally opens up to Nikita we get to see a man who would do anything to protect those he loves even if it means giving up himself.  I loved how protective he was of her but also enjoyed that when push came to shove he trusted in her abilities and brains even as he wanted to kill her for putting herself in danger.  He’s hot as hell when he gets what he wants but there is always a sense of humor in his interactions that helps cut thru the tension that permeates this book.  I felt for him as he navigates thru his family’s history and finally comes to terms with his unique abilities.

I enjoyed the heart, humor and heat that winds thru this entire series but this installment had the best chemistry in the main pair.  Trust me there will be many times when you can’t help but laugh at Kyle’s antics and the banter between the pair.  They really are a fun read even with the harder moments.

Thanks to Stacy Gail for giving me the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review.  I’ve enjoyed reading all of the series and while sad to see this one go I’m glad we got a fun one to end on.

Eloise “Lou” Whittaker can’t shake the feeling she’s forgetting something.

After surviving the explosion of the Poisonfoot Library, she struggles to find her footing again, and she’s grateful Archer Wyatt is there to make sure she’s all right. But Archer seems to be around an awful lot and Lou has trouble controlling herself when she’s with him. She should be thrilled the most popular guy in school wants to be with her, but still, there’s that nagging feeling…

Cooper Reynolds knows he ought to let Lou go. He was putting her at risk by letting her in the first time, and now that she’s a blank slate he should just let her go on blissfully unaware of his curse. But she’s given him a taste of something dangerous… hope.

Can Cooper and an unlikely ally help Lou break free from the spell she’s under?

And can they do it before a new force threatens to destroy the whole town?

The second book in this series has impressed me just as much as the first. I have been looking forward to this novel for a while, and decided to just sit down one day and read it from one end to the other. After doing just that I have to congratulate the author on a gripping sequel to the first book. After all the foreshadowing, I look forward to the continuation of the story of Cooper and Lou.

My heart broke for Cooper, who finally found someone to give him hope for a future, except she can’t remember him, and he has been warned that reminding her will only hurt her more. He had to watch his girl taken by the enemy, and to get her back he needs an ally who is as much a social outcast as he is. Oh, and he only has 10 months left to be human.

Lou came out of an accidental explosion missing something, and nobody is bothering to tell her what it is. All she knows is that she is suddenly dating the most popular guy at school, but far more interested in the Chemistry partner she seems to have forgotten everything about. I was totally on edge as she constantly tried to restore memories everyone else seemed to want to stay gone.

Some interesting information finally comes around in this book, and it was definitely worth the read. This novel was heart-wrenchingly, lightheartedly, desperately, unfairly enjoyable to read.  Special thanks to Sierra Dean for giving me a copy of this in exchange for my honest review.

She’s been looking for the perfect man. She found two.

When Rachel Riley sacrificed a life in Eden to protect the O’Kanes, she earned her place in the powerful Sector Four gang. But the former crime princess is tired of being everyone’s sweet little sister . It’s time for her to get wild, to embrace her fantasies as only an O’Kane can—with a delicious exiled soldier and the gang’s wickedly sinful tattoo artist.

A saint...

Lorenzo Cruz is a warrior, taught by his commanding officers in Eden that involvement equals distraction. Emotion is a liability, and desire a sin. In Sector Four, he finds decadence, shameless sex—and his own dark urges. No battle strategy prepared him for how Rachel makes his heart race…or the way his rival for her affections sets his blood on fire.

...and a sinner.

Ace Santana has a dirty reputation and a mind to match, especially where his new lovers are concerned. He’s eager to help Cruz embrace his dominant side, and to explore the lines between pleasure and pain with Rachel. But corrupting them quickly becomes an obsession, a need he can’t deny—and a love he never imagined.

Three hearts on the line means a hundred ways their ménage a trois could go wrong. After all, even O’Kanes do forever two-by-two. One of them could be the missing piece that makes them all whole…or a temporary diversion destined for a broken heart.

Ok…  I would love if I could just write this up as:

BUY THIS BOOK NOW NOW NOW!!!  You can thank me later!!

But ya know I think people expect more from us than just the whole buy it just buy it!  So here I go and I’m really not going to make this a long review as I don’t want to spoil anything for you….

I, like most people, have been dreaming of this book since we first met Rachel and Ace back in book one.  When it was revealed that not only would we get Ace and Rachel but we’d get the newcomer Cruz, well I might’ve whimpered a little bit.  Just a little…  I swear just a little…  ok ok you’ve got me, I whimpered A LOT!!  At the end of Beyond Control we got a major hint in how fiery Ace and Cruz might be together and dear lord did this book back that up!  You’ll laugh, whimper, fan yourself, squirm and cry as these three finally get their chance to shine.

Rachel has loved Ace for so long that she doesn’t know how they’ve ended up in a place where all they do is hurt one another.  You’ve seen them dance around one another since book one and in Beyond Control you got to see her spark with Cruz but Ace is something she just can’t seem to let go of which causes her to end it with Cruz but there are still sparks there as well.  As she hears more and more about what Ace does with Cruz and other women she finds herself wondering why haven’t they come to her?  What is wrong with her?  She’s tired of being trapped in her role as the good girl and is ready to get down and dirty with the men she craves.

Cruz is finally coming in to his own as an O’Kane.  He’s starting to realize what he needs and even though it causes him concern he is realizing as he spends more time around the relationships that are core to the gang he realizes his desires are not only ok they are something he should embrace with those who mean the most to him, Ace and Rachel.  As he puts the wheels in motion to create the relationship he believes that all of them deserve he also puts things in motion which could prove to be interesting in later stories.  I loved his willingness to cross lines to protect those who mean everything to him and adored how he called them both on their behaviors.  He is the perfect person to act as a buffer for the strong personalities in his partners.  He’s hot as hell and demanding but there is such a core of goodness in him that you can’t help but hurt for him as he watches the disaster happen but can’t stop.

Ace…  sigh..  Ace… what a damaged soul you are.  I wanted to slap some sense in you time and time again but was happy when things played out the way they did.  While I did cry a few times because of you I am glad that Kit didn’t flinch when telling your story and let you be the asshole you thought you were in order to protect yourself and those you loved.  I’m glad you got called out on your crap when you did but I’m also glad that you took the journey you did because if anything came easy you wouldn’t believe the truth of it.  The way you worked so hard to make sure that Rachel got what you believed she deserved was beautiful but misguided as she needed the man you really are not the man you thought you were.

Ok…  now other than to tell you there is a shower scene that will make you look at showers a new way… *fans self and readies freezer* … I’ve got to tell you try to read this one when you can read all of it in one sitting and in a relatively private place so you can cry and squirm in private.  The ladies sure know how to push the buttons that will make you ready to read it again within a few minutes of finishing it.

Thanks to Kit Rocha for giving me the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review.  I’m beyond ready to see you guys in NOLA at the RT Convention so be ready for me to SQUEE!!! when we meet.

Is their love a home run, or merely a pop fly? Boys of Summer, Book 2Minor league umpire Alice Darling loves everything about baseball. That means hunky ball players are strictly off limits—dating one would be professional suicide. With a young daughter and a brother to care for, she can’t afford to slip up. Truth is, as a young, stupid, nineteen-year-old townie, she did once date a player. That’s how she wound up with her precious, nine-year-old daughter...and a determination to never make that mistake again. Alex Ross’s arrival in Florida for spring training, though, shakes her resolve in a big way. Alex, a catcher for the Major League’s San Francisco Felons, has never let much get in the way of his game. One look at Alice changes everything, and he finds himself pursuing her with a single-minded purpose that plays hell with his concentration. Booted back to the minors, he returns to Florida with his tail between his legs to work on his swing...and heat things up with Alice. But when rumors of their affair hit the sports blogosphere, Alice’s career is put in jeopardy, and their love starts to look more like a strikeout than a home run. Warning: When a catcher struggling with his swing meets a stubborn single-mom umpire, his bat won’t be the only thing that heats up. Contains car sex, bed sex, sex sex, and a little angst for good measure.

If you didn’t know from following Sierra Dean on Twitter that she’s a baseball fan then you would definitely figure it out from reading this series.  Baseball players, support staff and fans are lovingly brought to life by her with an eye for not only the good things that come from being in the lifestyle but the harsh realities players and staff live thru in order to be a part of this sport play out over the year.

We got to see Alex in the prior book in the series and I know I looked forward to getting to know this catcher a bit better.  As we get to know him better we find that while he has had the typical love ’em and leave ’em lifestyle of the young, handsome, well-off player he really has a great heart that wants to find his match.  He’s got sisters that serve to keep him in line when it comes to the treatment of women but when he meets Alice he has no clue how to handle a woman that runs so hot and cold to him.  He shows how much he wants to be a part of her life in so many ways in this book but I have to say the way he tries to include her daughter in things melted my heart.  He really does try to treat both of them like princesses and treasures so you will adore this soft side.  He’s also extremely patient as he deals with Alice’s issues that at times I just didn’t see why he didn’t give up but I loved that he was willing to tolerate so much from her as in the end they make a great pair.

Alice is not my favorite heroine in many ways but I liked her and understood most of why she behaved the way she did.  I didn’t always like her treatment of Alex but was happy that she owned her mistakes once she realized what she stood to lose if she didn’t open her eyes.  She loves her job as an ump and being a single mother but finds herself struggling with keeping her home together while fighting an attraction to a ball player.  This attraction could ruin her career as an ump but can’t seem to avoid wanting a man who fits all the things she thinks is horrible.  She’s been burned by a ball player before and paints every single one of them with the same brush.  This of course creates conflict with Alex as she isn’t open with him about her issues and it almost drives a permanent wedge between them as she always jumps to the worst conclusions with him.  My frustration with her revolves around her willingness to forgive her brother for his actions but a man who has treated her with nothing but respect doesn’t get any chances because of his career?  I was happy when she finally wakes up to what she stands to lose if she doesn’t change but jeez it took a while to get there.

I’ve got to thank Sierra for the chance to read this as I loved Alex and learned to love Alice.  I’m ready for more more more…

Now for the fun stuff…  For a chance to win a copy of Perfect Catch in either a Nook or Kindle format tell me…  What MLB team do you cheer for or what sport do you prefer to baseball?  I’ll choose one winner on 3/24/2014 so have your entries in by 3/23/2014 at 11:59 pm CDT in order to be considered.  Include your format preference in your comment.

Transforming the old Caffey property into Hope Springs's new community arts center won't be easy for celebrated weaver Luna Meadows, but she sees it as a labor of love. The center will honor Sierra Caffey, the best friend Luna lost years ago in a car crash. But when Angelo Caffey - Sierra's older brother and Luna's first love - returns to his family's former home demanding answers, Luna must also face her long-buried feelings for him.

Angelo left Hope Springs - and Luna - eight years ago. Handsome and headstrong, he suspects the beautiful Luna harbors a secret about the accident. Yet despite his best efforts, he can't resist the heat that still simmers between them.

Will the untold truth shatter their future? Or could a new beginning lie within the tangled threads of their past? Part of the Hope Springs series, this charming romance follows two broken hearts on their long journey home.

I’ve been looking forward to this one since I read The Second Chance Cafe and first met Luna.  She’s an interesting character and I knew her backstory would be interesting.

Luna is embarking on a new phase in her life where she is moving out on her own and starting a center to help those with artistic talents but that don’t have money to completely pursue them.  She’s driven by the loss of her best friend  which not only left her an emotional wreck but left her with major physical injuries to heal and recover from.  Upon losing her friend it also meant that the relationship she was building in secret with Sierra’s older brother came crashing down and she was lost without her friend and her lover.  The most devastating part of this is the secret she still carries regarding her friend and the weight of that secret has threatened to crush her more and more each day.  I loved how much she wanted to keep her promise to her friend but when push finally came to shove I loved that she finally was able to get peace by giving those who needed the information to finally start to heal things that made it possible.  She was placed in a horrible situation and I’m glad that she finally was able to unburden herself and start to truly live again.  Of course I am happy that she finally was able to mend her relationship with the man she’d always loved and start to build something real and beautiful.

Angelo is a hurting mess when we first see him.  He’s drawn to Luna like he always has been but is so hurt by the loss of his sister he can’t see straight.  He constantly pushes Luna to try to get her to break and tell what she knows but finds himself opening up as he spends more and more time in his old house.  He has a lot of open wounds about his childhood and past that Luna doesn’t know about but when he finally opens up and shows her the dark side of his family we get to see the man that Luna deserves.  I didn’t like him at first but as he starts to really pay attention to what his treatment of the woman he kept hidden from his family actually did you start to see a man who has his heart in the right place.  He’s very damaged and by working on cleaning out his old home he finally gets a chance to start healing and begin to live his life fully.

This is a hard story in so many ways but the message in this is – Things aren’t always as they seem but love is worth every single hurt you may have to deal with.

I’m thankful that Alison was willing to send me a copy of this early because I enjoyed the story very much.  I am looking forward to the next one and any others she decides to write.
