He's in for the fight of his life . . .

Army captain Trent Davila loved his wife, Laura, and their two beautiful children. But when he almost lost his life in combat, something inside him died. He couldn't explain the emptiness he felt or bridge the growing distance between him and his family—so he deployed again. And again. And again . . . until his marriage reached its breaking point. Now, with everything on the line, Trent has one last chance to prove to his wife that he can be the man she needs . . . if she'll have him

. . . to win back his only love.

Laura is blindsided when Trent returns home. Time and again, he chose his men over his family, and she's just beginning to put the pieces of her shattered heart back together. But when Trent faces a court martial on false charges, only Laura can save him. What begins as an act of kindness to protect his career inflames a desire she thought long buried—and a love that won't be denied. But can she trust that this time he's back to stay?

Like most fans of this series I have been waiting for this story since we first met Trent and Laura.  While I would like to be greedy and say I wanted it much faster than we got it… I have to be honest and say that the wait, while torturous, was definitely worth it!  You will laugh and cry big ugly tears but in the end everything is sooooooo worth it!

Laura and Trent love each other but due to some major mistakes on Trent’s part they are at a point where everything seems to be lost.  Laura has filed for divorce and Trent is having to deal with major issues surrounding his last command.  We start this story by seeing how bleak everything is for both of them as Trent prepares for a deployment then get thrust in to the thick of things in present day.

I loved how Jessica wove their past in to the book as it gives the reader a sense of what they had and what seems to be lost forever until someone finally understands that while they have changed they need to work hard and accept that even they need help from those around them.  Trent was at a major crossroads in his life and watching this strong man break down his walls to let someone help him cope with what happened while he was deployed was heartbreaking and uplifting.  He tries so hard to not show how badly war has impacted him in order to protect his family but in the process ruined the trust that they had in him and when he finally owns up to how badly it hurt them you will just cry.  The realistic way that Jessica portrays his struggles will cause you to hurt deeply but war is not pretty and the havoc it plays with people’s lives should not be sugarcoated even for a romance.

Laura has had her own struggles.  She wanted to believe in Trent but finding out that he was volunteering to be deployed just broke her. She did not file for divorce on a whim and is still reeling from having to make this decision even though in her heart of hearts she still loves him more than life itself.  I appreciated that it wasn’t ever about the lack of love but it was more about protecting herself from more hurt.  She volunteers to play the part of a reconciled couple just to get him cleared of something that she knows is false but the question becomes can she really keep him away from hurting her again.  She’s just tired of being hurt and kept out of everything so does all she can to protect herself but as we all know sometimes love will find a way.

This couple has been through so much and I loved how Jessica made it clear that while you may love one another more than anything else open lines of communication and letting the other one in even if it hurts is the only way to make a relationship work.  With glimpses of the other couples we know and love this made a wonderful story that while filled with angst is also filled with immense amounts of hope and love.

Go grab this one and join me in waiting for Reza’s story…

As always I have to thank Forever Yours and NetGalley for giving me access to this title.  While I appreciate the access this in no way impacted my review of this work.

BTW – Jessica….  ummmmm when can I get my greedy little hands on Reza????  😉

WARRIOR OF HEAVEN

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before...to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

ANGEL OF HELL

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood...

All I can say is HOLY CRAP!!! Well, I want to say more and use different words but I’m editing for language.

This has everything I had hoped for Reaver and more than I saw coming.  Reaver gets his match in Harvester and as you find out more about their pasts you can’t help but mourn for what they’ve had to go through to get to where they are now.

Harvester was someone we all wanted to hate and did actively hate until we found out who she really was.  In this book we find out even more of what makes her tick and find that she’s such a perfect match for Reaver and has been for centuries.  She’s still kick ass and a bit mean but her softer side starts to show more and more even while she tries to hide it.  I find that I adore her spirit and look forward to getting to see more of her in her new role.  She’s never going to be soft, meek or mild but you know what…  I like that she can be a bitch when needed but when the worst happens this is a woman you want on your side.  What she went through to protect the Horsemen and then to protect and defend Reaver is absolutely amazing!  I felt for her as we see what Yenireth put her through and how much she just wanted to be wanted for her not for what she could do for someone.  She’s used to being used and having someone truly cherish her is something that causes her to get her defenses up even as she wants to pull them down.

Reaver…  dear lord…  such a naughty naughty angel.  He’s something else but fans of the series know this and adore him for his smart-ass behavior.  We get to see him in true form as he does things that could not only get him killed but also potentially start the war in earnest between Heaven and Hell.  He takes no prisoners in his fight to find out more about his past but what he ends up finding out is more than he ever could’ve imagined.  His struggle to do what is right is difficult to watch and his pain as he finds out about the major part he plays in Harvester’s decisions and life was breathtaking to read about.  This is a man who at his core fights for what he believes in even when it goes against the rules that are supposed to keep everyone in check.  As we watch him fall in love with his perfect match you get to see the struggle with what he wants and what his mind is telling him he shouldn’t want.  I loved seeing the struggle and have to admit their back-and-forth is part of what makes their relationship smoulder.  There is a lot of time to make up for and I hope we get to see more of them as they move forward.

Now…  I just have to GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR a bit because there are some freaking Archangels I just want to ummmm KILL…  actually KILL is a bit mild for what they deserve (one in particular) but hey… I’ll be good and wait to see if that one gets what is coming to him.  It better be damn well painful…  GRRRRR

Special thanks to NetGalley.com and the amazing team at Grand Central Publishing – Forever – for giving me the chance to get my hands on it early.  I might’ve SQUEEEEEED a bit when I saw the email.  You can send me Revenant any time now…  *HINT HINT*

There's nothing in the world Army Sergeant Vic Carponti loves more than his wife and his country. Smart-mouthed and easy tempered, he takes everything as a joke . . . except his promise to come home to his wife, Nicole, for Christmas. As he prepares to leave for his latest deployment into Iraq, Vic will do everything he can to shield his beautiful, supportive wife from the realities of war . . . and from his own darkest fears.

As a career army wife, Nicole Carponti knows just what to expect from her husband's tour of duty: loneliness, relentless worry, and a seemingly endless countdown until the moment Vic walks through the door again. But when the unthinkable happens, Nicole and Vic's bond is tested like never before and changes everything they believe to be true about the power of love and the simple beauty of being home for the holidays.

I fell in love with this series on book one and haven’t strayed yet.  I’m beyond looking forward to Laura and Trent’s story but seeing Vic and Nicole has managed to hold me over until we can get to what is sure to be a heartbreaking read.

Vic Carponti is a man who believes he has someone he doesn’t deserve in his wife Nicole.  He’s worried about this latest deployment but knows that he has to go in service for his country.  He just hopes that this isn’t the time that his luck with his wife runs out and she realizes how much better than him she could do.  He’s got a major wake-up call though when he gets hurt in the line of duty and finds out just what he really means to Nicole.  He’s such a great soul and seeing more of him behind the scenes just made me love him more than I already did.  This is a man who is incredibly loyal to his unit and to those who mean the world to him.  Does he do things he probably shouldn’t?  YES but…  there is a method to his madness and I loved getting to see it in this short story.

Nicole is the one who feels lucky to have met this amazing man.  Does he drive her crazy with some of his joking?  YES but she sees the real man behind the jokester and while she would love to have him by her side all the time knows that serving his country is a fundamental drive for him.  She worries about him but truly does get him in ways he doesn’t realize.  When he is injured we get to see her go through some of the most horrible moments in her life but I loved seeing her work to show him that he is what matters to her.  Nothing else…  She’s strong and also shows how good of a friend she is when we get to see more of the drama surrounding Laura and Trent.  She’s an amazing soul who understands what her other half needs even when he isn’t as secure.

This is a very quick story with some wonderful sexy moments but the main thing that shines through is the true love and devotion they have for one another even when the going gets tough.  I’m looking forward to more glimpses of them in the future!

Special thanks to NetGalley.com and Forever Yours for giving me the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review.  I love Jessica’s writing and am looking forward to more…..
