Can’t Buy Me Love – Molly O’Keefe

Can’t Buy Me Love – Molly O’Keefe – 3 stars

This is sort of a hard review to write…

I liked the book …  Some sections I adored…  I liked Tara Jean and Luc but something fell flat with them together.  Not that I think they aren’t a good pair but something just wasn’t 100% there with the pairing.

The good:
          1. Tara Jean – You want to not like her at the beginning just from the fact she was willing to participate in the farce used to get the kids home.  You also want to dislike the fact that she is judging people she has never met and just heard about from a man that she knows others have major issues with.  Now how can this be good???  She just is a truly good person under all the pretense and history.  I personally was rooting for her to get an HEA as she so rightly deserved.

         2. Luc – All I can say is HOT HOT HOT HOT.  He has a lot of issues and once again he is one that you want an HEA for since he is just a truly good man.

The annoying:
         1. Victoria – The sister just worked my nerves in this book…  She has the next book but the whole woe is me angle just wore me out.
         2. Eli – He had one redeeming feature in this – He stood up for Tara Jean….  but I’m not sure if I will like him in the next one as he always seemed to be pissed at the world.  Brooding heroes I like but…

Ok…  While I liked the story I’m not sure if I 100% bought that Luc and Tara Jean really were the perfect match…  I’m hoping we get some views of them in the next book that makes me more comfortable with the pair and I really hope that the main pair (see annoying above) make up for their appearances in this one.

Special thanks to and Bantam for providing me the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

A Gentleman Undone – Cecilia Grant – 3 stars

This was a very well done period piece with a highly unusual female for her time.

Will is a broken man in most respects from his time at war but his honor and morality in most respects is not compromised.  He gambles and is not a saint but for those flaws he is at heart an incredibly honorable man.  You want the best for him and cheer when he does end up with what matters most…  love and respect from those who deserve it.

Lydia is a wonderful heroine and extremely unusual for most romance novels covering this time…  She does what she has to in order to survive but also has her own strong sense of honor and loyalty.  She has a quick mind and an amazing knack for reading/running cards that serves her well.

I enjoyed the by-play between Will and Lydia but I missed some of that connection during the sex scenes..  she is a woman who is selling her body for protection and still loves sex but….  there is a disconnect between the main pair in these scenes that I missed.

Overall a good read and worth picking up.

Amazing Grace – Eve Gaddy

Amazing Grace – Eve Gaddy – 3 stars

Nice enjoyable read.  Max was just sigh worthy and Grace was a great fit for him.

Max comes in to town a bad boy in looks but a good guy in reality.  His first appearance is being arrested by Grace O’Malley after getting a little too chummy with the girlfriend of a local.  He was just being nice and asking questions but….  what can ya do…

Grace was a lot of fun as she is so confident as sheriff but isn’t so sure of herself as a woman.  She is tall and not classically gorgeous but Max sees her as a woman and not just as a sheriff.

The story of human smuggling and the suspense factor were done ok I thought but I really enjoyed watching the 2 main characters interact and find each other.

Quick hot read and would recommend it as such.

Special thanks to and Bell Bridge books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

Improper Relations – Juliana Ross

Improper Relations – Juliana Ross – 4 Stars

I enjoyed this really quick read.  I only wish it were longer so you got to see more of the main pair but for such a short read it was HOT!

Hannah is a woman of her times- i.e. believing that sex is just something that is her duty to her husband and that no pleasure is to be gained from it on her part.  She witnesses Leo, her late husband’s cousin, and a maid in the library enjoying a quick afternoon delight and is extremely interested in what transpired.

Leo…  now what to say about Leo…  he’s deliciously wicked and debauched for his time.  He isn’t what you and others believe him to be and is well worth the time needed to read this novella.

I wish when I was just learning how to enjoy sex that he had been my teacher…  YUM.  Sex to him is fun and meant to be enjoyed by both parties which for the times is a scandalous thought especially for the upper class.

My thanks to and Carina Press for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

The Harder They Fall – Trish Jensen – 4 Stars

I really enjoyed reading this book.  There were quite a few sections where I had to stop for a minute and just laugh because of something silly one side or the other did.

Darcy is a smart woman but has always had a penchant for being in the middle of odd circumstances that has gotten her labeled as a jinx.  Due to this she has been lonely most of her life.  People either want to protect her from being hurt (physically and mentally) or run away screaming when something that happens around her hurts them.  She means well but when she gets nervous…  run away….

Michael is extremely driven to prove his worth and is obsessive with lists and order so the chaos around Darcy is a bit jarring let alone physically painful for him when nervous Darcy inflicts “unintentional” pain on him (most of the time anyway…  LOL).

Overall this was a good, quick, cute read that I would recommend if you just want something that will make you giggle occasionally and has a few wonderful moments of heat but nothing that would scare away those who don’t like a ton of detail or boundaries pushed.

4 healthy stars just for the LOL factor and the cute storyline.

Special thanks to and Bell Bridge Books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

Goddess in the Middle – Stephanie Julian – 3.5 Stars

Goddess in the Middle – Stephanie Julian

I must say I did not realize this was a part of a series and now I know I need to go grab the rest.

Amity is the Etruscan Goddess of Healing but thru the years she has been steadily losing power but still loves and needs to help those who need it.  She is now working as a medical aesthetician.  She meets 2 men – Remy and Rom – at a bar and takes them home for a bit of fun…  She doesn’t realize it but they are both lucani (wolf-shifters) and are also able to command magic that has been prophesied to play a major part in protecting a young-in-her-powers goddess.

Remy and Rom are both incredible men, hot…  smexy….  loving…  etc etc etc

The scenes with the 3 of them were smoking hot but you can sense very early in the book that there is a true connection between the 3 of them.  I really enjoyed the by-play between the cousins and watching Rom finally admit what he wants was a nice treat.

You should check this out and don’t worry if you haven’t read the others in this series as I never felt like I was missing out on anything.  As a matter of fact I didn’t know this was part of a series when I requested it from Net Galley and didn’t realize it until I looked at the cover and blurb on GR.

Take a chance and enjoy watching the story unfold..  I’m very interested in seeing Kari again and waiting for the side story of her patient and the God in this story.

Special thanks to net and Sourcebooks Casablanca for letting me read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Cosmic Hearts – Kara Griffin

I received a copy of this thru Net Galley and greatly appreciate the chance to read and review the book.

This book has all the signs of being a good idea but… a little poorly executed. I realize that this was meant to be tongue in cheek humor plus campy romance but some of the verbiage used got a little tiresome and (for lack of a better term) infantile. At times I was using one of the terms in the book when thinking, “you’ve got to be druking me!”

Now mind you I liked the main characters, Chance and Valeen, and his brother Jack but the writing itself did start to grate a little on my nerves.

Would I recommend it – ehhh if you have a little time to waste and can tune out some of the prose it wasn’t a bad, dear-god please kill me now so I don’t have to read it again book.

If you like campy humor, silly romance, and just want to get away for a bit – go for it!

If you on the other hand have a pile of other items to get to and don’t want to get jarred out of a scene because of silly prose then give it a pass and come back when you are in the mood for lower B grade sci-fi romance humor.

🙂 i would rate this at about a 2.5 stars read.

About Last Night – Ruthie Knox

Thank you to Ruthie Knox for letting me read this prior to the release date!

This in some ways is a classic 2 opposites attract romance but… They aren’t really opposites but two very messed up people who by virtue of coming together manage to make each other whole and the best of themselves!

Mary Catherine (Cath) has a lot of issues to work thru due to her not so perfect childhood, first marriage, rebellious phase and in general screwed up life up until the point she finally meets City.

Neville.. huge sigh … As City he was wonderful but when he truly comes in to his own and out from under what he has allowed himself to become to appease his family… just sigh.. and drool…

Like most romances you have moments when you really want to hurt both main characters but the journey they take is soooooooo worth it.

My hope is Ruthie will take a moment later to give us an epilogue or short story showing more about them as I would adore seeing them a few years down the road… 🙂

To buy this…  and really you must get this one….

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.
So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.
Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.
If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

Empty Wallet Syndrome and Rough Ride!

May 17, 2012 Uncategorized 0

I’m going to start this post by saying I loved my first exposure to Keri Ford!!

Rough Ride, The Roughnecks #1 – 5 stars!

This was a quick read for me but I really enjoyed the main pairing along with the supporting characters.

Lane is a troubled soul that is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders (Yummy as they are).  He is harboring a secret that he feels will drive a permanent wedge between him and his brothers.  This secret is revealed in the book but it also is brought out that this is not the only thing that has kept him from having the life he yearns for.  He also needs to be able to see that he is worthy of love and happiness. Thankfully he meets Gretchen…  She sees something in him other than the gruff exterior and of course yummy hotness that everyone else seems to notice.  She also has to let go of her past in order to move forward and become what she deserves.  This is a heartwarming story as both leads have things to work on in order to make this relationship work.  Gretchen figures herself out much faster than Lane but I did like that she pushed and pushed to get him to wake up but was willing to let him go rather than accept a 1/2 life with him.  She wanted it all or would live with nothing….

This was a hot steamy ready and like many others now I want pie!!

Empty wallet syndrome-

Thanks for the recommendation by Nikki Brandyberry – Ramblings From a Chaotic Mind

As much as I love recommendations from the folks I meet on twitter or GoodReads there are times when I curse them…  namely when I look at the statement from Amazon on how much I am spending to get these recommended reads…  This is commonly referred to as Empty Wallet Syndrome.  I tend to suffer from this a lot as I am a known book junkie and always up to picking up yet another book even though I may have a huge backlist still to read.  These innocent book pushers like to spread the misery (happiness) by pointing out how irresistible the next reads are so you must must go out and get them now. In the case above for Keri Ford I now have to go out and pick up the backlist and pre-order the next books just so I can see the other brothers’ stories and HEA.  Geez…  what do people think – I’m just made of money.

Kidding only kidding!!  đź™‚

Keri Ford also has a great blog/website and can be found at Keri Ford’s Official Website

Have fun and Happy Reading!!!
