Moonlight & Mechanicals – Cindy Spencer Pape – 4 stars

I still need to go back and read the first two in this series but I love it.  I’m just getting in to the whole steampunk realm but these have been fun steps in to that genre.

Wink (I just can’t stomach her full name) is a female engineer in a time period where women of her station are expected to be wives and mothers not career women.  She’s been in love with our hero since she was a child but he’s never seen her as a woman but a friend.  I loved how she knew her own mind but when it came to love she floundered.  She’s had a proposal from a man she could have a perfectly acceptable marriage with if it weren’t for these pesky feelings of passion she feels for our hero.  I liked the fact she was honest with her friend and never made it seem like he had a true chance but was real with him even as she was trying to open her mind a bit just in case.  When she gets the chance to push the boundaries with Liam she does so and boy oh boy does she break his walls down.  I’m looking forward to more from this pair in the later books.

Liam..  such a sexy beast you were.  I loved watching you come to terms with your past and open your heart up to Wink.  He’s always noticed Wink but due to his own issues has decided that his best course of action is getting her paired up with Connor.  He gives Connor ideas on what exactly to get Wink for gifts..  how to woo her..  how to make her his but nothing works.  He just keeps pushing and pushing but fortunately Wink and Connor both see it for what it is and push back.  I understood why he felt the way he did but when he and Wink get together everyone knows what the real story is.  She’s his and he is hers for all time.  That his wolf marks her before he acknowledges the truth was a sweet moment and her reaction to seeing him in wolf form showed him exactly how lucky he was.

I’m glad I read this and would recommend this series to anyone wanting to try out the steampunk realm.  Thanks to and Carina Press for the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review.

Esme is an independent woman who is trying hard to help others by leading thesuffragette movement.  Unfortunately she equates love with dependence and isn’t quite willing to become a partner with the man she truly loves.  I felt that she was a wonderful person but that initially she had such a narrow view of relationships that it got a little frustrating.  So happy that Jed was willing to deal with this level of independence and turn it on its head.

Jed is such a wonderful man for his time and even now would be a very enlightened partner.  He’s torn between wanting to keep her safe and wanting to let her do what makes her happy.  He’s a great inventor and I loved watch him struggle with his need for Esme and her need to be independent.  It was a fun story to see unfold and the bit of intrigue was enough to keep the story moving.

I’m going to have to head back out and pick up the first book so I can see how the two of them met.

Go grab this for a quick read and enjoyable main pair.  Thanks to and Carina Press for the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review.
