RT 2014 Recap & Giveaway

June 14, 2014 Contest 11

Yeah I know I know… RT was a while ago and I’ve put nothing up on the site about my trip there but I did get back in town just in time to go to RAGT plus had to finish up classes right when I got back.  Hey waiting for me to write this could result in you getting something additional I wouldn’t have been able to give away until after I got extras at RAGT so that is a win in my book.

Ok on to the fun recap-

Starting on May 9th my partner in crime, Rochelle, and I braved a road trip that stretched from Omaha to New Orleans with a stop overnight in Jackson MS.  There were a few entertaining parts in Arkansas where we didn’t have cell service and were driving over rusty bridges in the middle of nowhere but we survived to then encounter the 24 mile long bridge over Lake Ponchartrain-

This bridge isn’t for people who don’t like long stretches over water where you can’t see the other side for a long time but was interesting to come in to NOLA that way.  We then checked in to our hotel where we were treated to an amazing view of the river:

After putting stuff in the room and asking for recommendations for where to grab FOOD we ended up taking our bellhop’s advice and grabbing a meal at The Ruby Slipper on Magazine Street which ended up being a regular breakfast stop and honestly one of the places I miss most by not being in NOLA right now.  The staff is amazing but the food was to die for (Eggs Cochon):

We also snuck in a cemetery tour where we got to see the tomb of Marie Laveau:

I also got to enjoy the classic tastes of beignet and hurricanes while there from the traditional places of Cafe DuMonde and Pat O’Brien’s:

While I adored the food and the atmosphere of NOLA I also was there to fulfill my personal need for books, books, books and more books plus meet some amazing authors, publishers, editors and others professionally in the industry but meeting readers and other bloggers who are just as crazy about books satisfied a deep need in my soul which leads to some of the fun things the winner of my contest will get.  Oh and I have to share a pic of PJ on her knees just cause I have one… and ummmm Vida from Kensington wearing a honey badger hat because ya know..  I have one:

Now I know what you are waiting for…  What oh what am I giving away and how can you possibly win it??  Ok I am giving this fun RT bag away with the following books and goodies plus some swag:

Well you can see the books but what isn’t as easy to see is 2 thumb drives with books from Carina Press and Escape Publishing.  Yes all this fun stuff plus some other swag can be yours if you tell me:

Have you ever been to NOLA and if so what was your favorite part of the city?  If not..  is this somewhere you’d like to go and what do you think would be something you’d like to experience while there?

I’ll keep this open until June 22nd at 11:59 pm US Central time so comment away and good luck!

No, I’ve never been but man do I want to visit I was not only jealous of all those in New Orleans but also those at RT. I’ve never been to any reader conferences which is I love reading about other’s experiences so thanks for sharing Stephanie! I’d love to attend one hopefully someday soon I’ll get to.

I know it is expensive but I’m glad I have been able to go. I enjoy getting to have a vacation where I talk books and get to meet so many others as addicted to reading as I am. Dallas in 2015 plus I think I am going to try to go to Coastal Magic in Feb 2015. 🙂

Never been, but I would visit New Orleans for the food alone. I had no idea there were so many “flavors” of beignets and I’m definitely craving gumbo and muffalettas. I would also probably go on a ghost/cemetery tour.

I will definitely be going back to have more gumbo and such but the olive salad always loses me with a muffaletta.

No, I’ve never been to NOLA but would like to see the historic homes and buildings.

I should’ve put a couple of photos up that I had of the Quarter. I’ll maybe tweet some of them later.

Never been to NOLA, but have always wanted to go. Can’t see myself going during the summertime though. One of the things I’ve wanted to experience in LA is a specific food item. A turkduchen. No idea if I spelled it right.

    • Steph

You can actually order a turducken to be mailed to your home. Not sure if they ship worldwide but …. 😉

I did not know that! I’m gonna have to look into that. I happen to live in south Texas, not so far…

I’ve never been but I do want to go to experience all the yummy culinary treats! I’m not much of a drinker but places like The Ruby Slippery and Cafe Du Monde call to me!

I don’t tend to drink either but had to have 1 hurricane. There are a lot of yummy stops in NOLA. 🙂
