This season means many different things to people –
- Time to visit family
- Time to enjoy vacation from work
- Sugary treats
Well and then some people enjoy watching holiday movies and listening to holiday music but after many years of working retail I just look forward to time off! I can’t have a Christmas tree in the apartment without having to come up with some amazing engineering to not only keep it from being pulled down by two spoiled cats but I also can’t have any real evergreen anywhere near me or you won’t see me at work or anywhere without being completely drugged up due to an allergy. I love real trees but…. can’t do it.. *sigh*
So… this year I think I am going to make meatloaf and scalloped potatoes for the holiday meal plus I might just break down and make Aeblekagen for dessert:
Bread (regular old white bread)
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Layer the ingredients in a casserole dish or some sort of baking dish. Butter at bottom then in the order listed in the ingredient list ending with Cinnamon Sugar.
Put in oven and bake until it smells done and looks golden and delicious on top.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.. warm is best.
Ok so there aren’t measurements above but hey that’s the way I was told the recipe other than I gave you an oven temp <I was just told a warm oven>. Welcome to the world of my mom’s recipes. <I really do love you mom but at times… thankfully I know what things should look/taste like so using your recipes works for me> She’s a great cook but anything other than extreme baking gets a recipe with no real measurements and at times notes like — Something sweet… well you know I usually have syrup around so that’s what I tend to grab.. <This was in her recipe for Swiss Steak> — and you have to really get creative to get the balance right. So in honor of this and because I can…
I’m going to give away to one lucky commentor below a fun gift set that contains signed paperbacks of the Brenda Novak Whiskey Creek Series and a cute mini-tote bag….
To win just leave the answer to the question below by 12/17/13 at 11:59 pm US Central and I’ll pick one person…
