One of my favorite writing duos is back to visit me in support of their new book Bare Knuckle! Come say “Hi!” and help us bid a fond (yet sad as hell) farewell to the Vegas Hot Guns series. If you haven’t picked them up yet man are you missing some hot as hell pilots and their equally hot fetishes. 😉
Hot Heroes, Hot Cars
By Katie Porter
I’m probably treading a little too close to a stereotype here, but here’s the truth: the only thrill I get from cars is looking at them and riding in them. Whatever I know about three point turns and brake horsepower comes from Britain’s “Top Gear.” (An aside: I adore Richard Hammond.) When it came to the protagonists of our debut Katie Porter series, “Vegas Top Guns,” we felt that their vehicles had to reflect their personalities as much as their sexual fetishes.
In Double Down, respectable, solidly All-American Ryan drives a big F-250. It’s not outwardly flashy, but they can be damn expensive…and intimidating. Jon in Inside Bet is a rich playboy, so naturally he needed the crème de le crème, a Aston Martin DBS a la James Bond. The matched daredevils in Hold ’Em, Leah and Mike, ride mean-ass motorcycles: hers sleek and hot pink, his bold and powerful. Then there’s Dash’s unassuming “family car,” the Mitsubishi Evo 10, which can smoke any sports car in a flat out stretch.
They’re pilots. Why limit speed to the ground?
That meant we had to think long and hard about what car Capt. Eric “Kisser” Donaghue would drive in Bare Knuckle . He grew up in a bad part of Detroit, so we knew Americana was in his blood. No foreign cars for him. He’s also be a fan of the classics, from the days when Detroit was the center of the auto universe. That meant something with iconic history.
We chose a ’68 Camaro. Now, naturally a guy on a decent but stretched salary—he’s paying for his brother’s stint in rehab—wouldn’t have the cash to buy a souped up Camaro from the last of the hot rod heydays. No, he’s a hands-on guy with patience, practicality, and an unexpected artistic side. That he spent eight years restoring his drop dead beauty says as much about his character as Leah and Mike’s motorcycles.
Plus, Eric’s a sucker for beautiful things. He’s a voyeur after all, and a keen shutterbug when a woman’s willing to bare all. Showgirl Trish Monroe happens to look amazing in her platinum blonde wig, sexy clothes, and sultry smile, reclining against fine leather upholstery. If only he had a camera…or maybe a darkened side street.
We’d like to give away a copy of BARE KNUCKLE in any digital format. Just answer the question: What cars (or trucks or motorcycles) turn you on or evoke particularly fond memories?
Steph – I have a massive soft spot for Mustangs… but almost any older muscle car will get me to take a second, third glance or hell just drool while I stand there staring. 🙂
