It was only supposed to last one night…
Roxanne Stokes doesn’t believe in love. She does, however, believe in the sexy-as-sin stranger who literally knocks her off her feet in front of a nightclub. The chemistry sparking between them takes her breath away, and she’ll do anything to ease the pain in his eyes…until she realizes the handsome stranger is her best friend’s older brother who’s just come home from war.
Ian Walser had no idea the gorgeous woman he slept with the night of his homecoming party was his little sister’s best friend—or that she’d be gone before morning. Roxanne’s touch soothes him in a way nothing else can, and he’s not ready to walk away from that yet. Not when spending time with her gave Ian a glimpse of everything he’s ever wanted.
When his sister unwittingly pushes them together, he sees his chance. But convincing a woman who doesn’t believe in love that she’s his Mrs. Right might be harder than any mission Ian’s undertaken. Good thing this soldier likes a challenge…
Roxanne is heading to a party she doesn’t really want to be at when she is knocked down by a man coming out of the club as if someone was chasing him. She is shocked but when she looks in his eyes she finds that all she wants to do is try to chase the shadows out of his eyes. I mean a quick meaningless night of sex would do the trick for both of them right? Once she finds out his name she runs away without saying goodbye but also leaves him cash for a cab. I personally found that part funny but hey she’s just trying to be nice. I liked her but I found myself getting a bit pissed as she has to spend more time around him at the request of her best friend, his sister, and yet keeps listening to the voice in her head that says he’ll be like every other man that she has ever known and leave when love is involved.
Ian is running from ghosts in his head left by his time in the military. He’s also trying to decide what he wants to do with his life now that he is out. When he runs in to Roxanne he is shocked because just her touch seems to sooth the mess in his head. When he wakes up in the morning and finds that she has snuck out without any sort of goodbye he is understandably upset. When he sees the money and note that made it go even deeper to the pissed off realm. After spending some time waking back up and sobering up he tracks down his sister to talk to her but also runs in to the woman who has haunted his thoughts since that night. He pushes her buttons but as they get to know each other ends up wanting more than just sex with her even though she won’t let him in. He’s very persuasive in his attempts to make the relationship work and made huge strides in his own mental health as the book progressed.
This was a very nice read with a very good man who at times I felt deserved someone more open to him than Roxanne was. She was a bit harder to like even with the issues from her childhood. I have to thank NetGalley.com and Entangled Publishing for the chance to read this in exchange for my honest review. It was definitely a hot read with some great scenes.
