Raid – Kristen Ashley – 4 stars – Contest

The Blurb:

Hanna Boudreaux has lived in the small town of Willow, Colorado all her life. The great-granddaughter of the town matriarch, she’s sweet, cute and quiet.

Too quiet.

Hanna has a moment of epiphany when she realizes her crush for forever, Raiden Ulysses Miller, is not ever going to be hers. She sees her life as narrow and decides to do something about it.

Raiden Miller is the town of Willow’s local hero. An ex-marine with the medal to prove his hero status, he comes home, shrouded in mystery. It takes a while but, eventually, Hanna catches his eye.

But after all these years of Raid and Hanna living in the same town, the question is, why? Is Raid interested in Hanna because she’s sweet and cute? Or does Raid have something else going on?

This has some BDSM

My Thoughts:

I know a lot of people who are Kristen Ashley addicts and I can see why they love her over the top heroes just by my first dip in the pool with Knight, Creed and finally Raid.  These men are definitely Alphas but when they meet their one they fall hard.  I don’t mean they clean up their acts or quit being complete cavemen but their devotion to their women shines through the caveman attitude.

Raid isn’t a perfect man even though he is a former Marine with major skeletons in his closet that he hasn’t dealt with yet.  He’s absolutely gorgeous and when he decides what he wants is Hanna she doesn’t stand a chance.  He does a lot of things that technically are against the law but I liked that when he told her about them he didn’t whitewash it or try to lie about why he was doing what he was.  He also does some great things in taking care of her great-grandmother that made me smile at the sweet side under the “me man, you woman” attitude.  Would I kick this man out of my bed with what he can do in it?  No…  would I let him back in my bed after some of the stunts he pulls…  No.  But this is a book and fantasy so even though his attitude pisses me off in real life, it makes me swoon in a romance novel.  He’s broody, possessive, sculpted and bad-ass so you can understand why women who meet him want to jump him and why even when he behaves like an ass Hanna forgives him.

Hanna is a good girl.  No seriously she is a ray of sunshine that is goofy, insecure and wants the whole picket fence thing.  She’s been in love with Raid since she was six and over the years this yearning has made her unable to find the one.  She gets a wake-up call one day after seeing him with a petite, blonde, big-breasted piece of tail and decides it is time to do something different with her life.  She changes her hair, finds some new hobbies and truly starts to break out of her shell.  Unfortunately it also brings her some people who aren’t what they seem but it also gets Raid to see her for the first time.  She pushes his buttons in a major way but I did like that even though she knew things would be hard with him that she did at times push back and stand up for herself.  Did she always?  No but I liked that she wasn’t completely spineless even though he did get her to back down more than stand up to him.  She’s exactly what he needed and seeing both of them come in to the people they were meant to be was interesting.

I have to say I liked seeing Creed and Knight plus the side characters in this were fun and interesting.  I hope we get a bit more from this series as it was interesting to read.
